Version 5
This is now the current version of Condor, and the latest incarnation
has been upgraded from an "alpha" to a "beta" release. (Don't wait for
us to remove the "beta" designator, that may never happen.)
The latest is "5.5.4b", and is available as source, or in binary
form for
Dec Alpha OSF/1 v1.0
Sun sun4m SunOS 4.1.3
Dec Mips Ultrix 4.3b
Slightly older binary versions are available for
IBM R6000 AIX3.2
Sun sun4c SunOS 4.1.3
We hope to upgrade at least the "sun4c" binaries and also provide
version 5 binaries for HP snakes quite soon. We also expect
to provide a Condor for Linux in the near future. An upgrade for
IBM is less certain.
Notes:
1. Very few of the documents have been updated to match
version 5, so you'll have to try to get by with the Version 4
documents (packaged with the V5 code) for awhile. We will be
updating these soon.
2. Building Condor from source can be difficult. We recommend
using the binary distributions unless you need to do a port or have
other reasons why you must build from source. We will try to
upgrade the documents on how to do such a build before too long.
3. Neither the condor deamons nor already linked condor jobs
are compatible between version 4 and version 5. You will have
to turn everything off and clean up all your job queues before
installing V5, if you are already running V4.
Version 4
This is the tried and true Condor which has been available as
source only for several of years now. We're keeping this in the
separate "Version_4" directory in case anybody has problems with
version 5, and wants to try the older code which was successful for
many people, especially Sun sites.
This should run on Sun 4, (SPARC) machines running SunOS 4.1
and above, and DECstation 3100 and 5000 machines running Ultrix
4.3 and above. This verson is available only as source, and
there are a few caveats on building and installing it in the
"fixes" file, and the Mailing list archive. Many folks around
the world are happily running this code for production, so
don't let the fixes file or the need to examine the archive
scare you too much. If you want to build this version please
get:
Version_4/Condor_4.1.3b.tar.Z
Version_4/Condor_4.1.3b.fixes
Condor-World.Archive
For HP Risc machines, we have "interim" version called 4.5. This
is available as a binary distribution which is ready for
easy installation. We can make those sources available if somebody
has a need - we're aren't hiding anything, we just haven't taken
the time to package them up. Send mail if you need them. The
binary distrib file is:
Version_4/Condor_4.5_hp700.bin.tar.Z
Sun running Solaris
Many folks have asked about Condor for Solaris. This situation is
that we would like to do the port, but need help with resources, i.e.
machines and or money. If you can help, please let us know.
SGI running IRIX
There have also been a significant number of requests for Condor
on SGI. Here we have some collaborators who are attempting a port,
but have neither machines nor human resources to do it ourselves.
If our friends succeed, we will make that code available. If you
are seriously interested in Condor on SGI, contact us and we will
discuss what could be done to make it happen.
For More Information
If you want more information about condor, you can contact us.
The email address is "condor-request@cs.wisc.edu" or
"uwisc!condor-request". You may also call me (Mike Litzkow) at
(608) 262-6122. If you would like me to send hard copies of
the current condor documents, let me know. Otherwise I'll just
add you to the mailing list so you'll be informed when patches or
new versions become available.
A mailing list is available for discussion of issues related to
Condor which may be of general interest. Mail sent to
condor-world@cs.wisc.edu
will be reposted to the entire list.
