  3.     This is now the current version of Condor, and the latest incarnation
  4.     has been upgraded from an "alpha" to a "beta" release.  (Don't wait for
  5.     us to remove the "beta" designator, that may never happen.)
  6.  
  7.     The latest is "5.5.4b", and is available as source, or in binary
  8.     form for
  9.         Dec Alpha    OSF/1 v1.0
  10.         Sun sun4m    SunOS 4.1.3
  11.         Dec Mips     Ultrix 4.3b
  12.  
  13.     Slightly older binary versions are available for
  14.         IBM R6000    AIX3.2
  15.         Sun sun4c    SunOS 4.1.3
  16.  
  17.     We hope to upgrade at least the "sun4c" binaries and also provide
  18.     version 5 binaries for HP snakes quite soon.  We also expect
  19.     to provide a Condor for Linux in the near future.  An upgrade for
  20.     IBM is less certain.

  22.     Notes:
  23.     1.  Very few of the documents have been updated to match
  24.     version 5, so you'll have to try to get by with the Version 4
  25.     documents (packaged with the V5 code) for awhile.  We will be
  26.     updating these soon.
  27.  
  28.     2.  Building Condor from source can be difficult.  We recommend
  29.     using the binary distributions unless you need to do a port or have
  30.     other reasons why you must build from source.  We will try to
  31.     upgrade the documents on how to do such a build before too long.

  33.     3.  Neither the condor deamons nor already linked condor jobs
  34.     are compatible between version 4 and version 5.  You will have
  35.     to turn everything off and clean up all your job queues before
  36.     installing V5, if you are already running V4.

  38. Version 4
  39.  
  40.     This is the tried and true Condor which has been available as
  41.     source only for several of years now.  We're keeping this in the
  42.     separate "Version_4" directory in case anybody has problems with
  43.     version 5, and wants to try the older code which was successful for
  44.     many people, especially Sun sites.
  45.     
  46.     This should run on Sun 4, (SPARC) machines running SunOS 4.1
  47.     and above, and DECstation 3100 and 5000 machines running Ultrix
  48.     4.3 and above.  This verson is available only as source, and
  49.     there are a few caveats on building and installing it in the
  50.     "fixes" file, and the Mailing list archive.  Many folks around
  51.     the world are happily running this code for production, so
  52.     don't let the fixes file or the need to examine the archive
  53.     scare you too much.  If you want to build this version please
  54.     get:
  55.         Version_4/Condor_4.1.3b.tar.Z
  56.         Version_4/Condor_4.1.3b.fixes
  57.         Condor-World.Archive

  59.     For HP Risc machines, we have "interim" version called 4.5.  This
  60.     is available as a binary distribution which is ready for
  61.     easy installation.  We can make those sources available if somebody
  62.     has a need - we're aren't hiding anything, we just haven't taken
  63.     the time to package them up.  Send mail if you need them.  The
  64.     binary distrib file is:

  67. Sun running Solaris
  68.     Many folks have asked about Condor for Solaris.  This situation is
  69.     that we would like to do the port, but need help with resources, i.e.
  70.     machines and or money.  If you can help, please let us know.

  72. SGI running IRIX
  73.     There have also been a significant number of requests for Condor
  74.     on SGI.  Here we have some collaborators who are attempting a port,
  75.     but have neither machines nor human resources to do it ourselves.
  76.     If our friends succeed, we will make that code available.  If you
  77.     are seriously interested in Condor on SGI, contact us and we will
  78.     discuss what could be done to make it happen.
